Burger King Germany customers get a free Whopper if they spoil the movie

The rise of spoiler culture has been a bit of a scourge on how we talk about art. Yes, if there is some huge twist that a movie’s plot is hinging on, it might suck to hear about that beforehand, but if the revelation of said twist keeps you from enjoying the movie, then maybe it wasn’t very good to begin with. Movies are more than their plots! Anyway, this is all to say if you don’t care about spoilers because the overall movie-watching experience is the enjoyable thing, you can go to Germany and get a free Whopper.

In a new campaign, the chain tempted Star Wars fans with free Whoppers in exchange for their reading a spoiler of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker out loud. They also set the ad in a specific “spoiler” restaurant that was covered in reveals. “We wanted to challenge people’s Whopper love and put it to the ultimate test by asking them to choose between their love for our flagship product and their love for the most epic sci-fi movie ever,” Klaus Schmäing, director of marketing at Burger King Germany, told Hollywood Reporter. Here’s a “safe” version of the ad, which still suggests that characters [SPOILER] will do things to each other in the movie.

We just hope the Burger King employees were all given Star Wars screeners beforehand, or were paid well in case they didn’t want to know ****** kills *******.
